sPACYcLOUd Lounge is hosting a music livecoding workshop on June 2 for D.C.-area residents who are new to coding — and even new to music performance.

The workshop will instruct budding musicians on TidalCycles, a program used to turn lines of code into repeating patterns of music allowing for randomness, audio effects (e.g. delay, distortion, reverb), granular synthesis and imagination to sculpt rhythmic patterns without ever losing the beat. Unlike pre-composed, recorded electronic beats, livecoded music is created in real-time, allowing the artist to improvise freely and often, just by tweaking algorithms.

Now we can confidently tell you it’s the only place in the city where you can get delicious food, buy killer clothes and skate to your hearts content at the same damn time.

They kicked off their opening with a ton of cool people doing kick flips inside and ended it with a traditional Filipino Kamayan dinner. We can’t wait to see what they do next.
